John Carew hoping for Aston Villa recall • Birmingham battling injury crisisArsenal v Wigan AthleticWigan manager Roberto Martinez has virtually a fully-fit squad to choose from ahead of the trip to Arsenal tomorrow. Midfielder Olivier Kapo, who injured knee ligaments in pre-season, played in midweek for the reserves and could come into contention but is probably still a few days short of match fitness.Wigan from: Kirkland, Melchiot, Scharner, Bramble, Figueroa, N'Zogbia, Thomas, Diame, Koumas, Gomez, Rodallega, Edman, Boyce, Watson, Cho, Sinclair, Scotland, King, McCarthy, Pollitt, Kapo.Aston Villa v Portsmouth (3pm)Aston Villa striker John Carew is pushing for a recall to the starting line-up for tomorrow's Villa Park clash against Portsmouth. Carew came off the bench at Birmingham last weekend to set up Gabriel Agbonlahor's winning goal in the 1-0 victory.Villa boss Martin O'Neill has to decide whether to continue with Agbonlahor as a lone striker or add extra firepower to his side. He also has the option of recalling England striker Emile Heskey.New signings Richard Dunne, James Collins and Stephen Warnock, who all made their debuts at Birmingham, will make their first home appearances against Portsmouth. O'Neill has no new injury problems to contend with as Wilfred Bouma and Stewart Downing continuing their comebacks from ankle and foot problems respectively.Portsmouth manager Paul Hart has no fresh injury worries ahead of the game. The Fratton Park club have hamstring victim Steve Finnan back in training but the Irishman is not yet ready for selection. Herman Hreidarsson is no longer suffering pain in his foot but also remains sidelined.Papa Bouba Diop is still out with a hamstring problem and new striker Aruna Dindane is undergoing a two-week fitness programme in a bid to overcome a knee injury.Aston Villa (from): Friedel, Guzan, Beye, Cuellar, Collins, Dunne, Warnock, Shorey, Milner, Sidwell, Petrov, Reo-Coker, A Young, Agbonlahor, Heskey, Carew, Albrighton, Delfouneso, Delph, Gardner, Clark, Bannan.Portsmouth (from): James, Kaboul, Mokoena, Mullins, Utaka, Webber, Kanu, Ashdown, Hughes, Begovic, Basinas, Belhadj, Vanden Borre, Piquionne, Smith, Niemi, O'Hara, Brown, Prince-Boateng, Ben-Haim, Williamson, Yebda.Bolton Wanderers v Stoke City (3pm)Stoke goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen should be fit to return from a thigh strain for tomorrow's trip to Bolton. Sorensen limped off in the first half of last Saturday's defeat by Chelsea, but he has responded to treatment and returned to training.James Beattie, who burst a blood vessel in his ankle in the same game, is a serious doubt despite the injury being not as serious as first feared.Stoke boss Tony Pulis is likely to make further changes after selecting three centre-backs against Chelsea, with wingers Liam Lawrence and Matthew Etherington back in contention.Stoke (from): Sorensen, Wilkinson, Shawcross, Huth, Abdoulaye Faye, Collins, Whitehead, Delap, Whelan, Lawrence, Etherington, Kitson, Fuller, Simonsen, Tuncay, Higginbotham, Pugh, Griffin, Cresswell, Cort, Amdy Faye.Burnley v Sunderland (12.45pm)Burnley manager Owen Coyle will again be without skipper Steven Caldwell for the home clash against Sunderland. The defender continues to be troubled by a groin injury which has sidelined him for all of the Clarets' matches so far this season.Fellow centre-back Michael Duff is fit again after an ankle injury but is unlikely to dislodge Andre Bikey and Clarke Carlisle at the heart of the defence.Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole is a major doubt for the trip to Burnley. The former Middlesbrough and Wigan player has been struggling with a heel problem suffered on international duty and manager Steve Bruce will make a late decision on him.Goalkeeper Marton Fulop is likely to miss out once again with a similar problem, although Craig Gordon, who played in the 4-1 victory over Hull last weekend, has recovered from his thigh strain. Left-back George McCartney has a chance of making the game after recovering more quickly than expected from a hamstring injury, but Kieran Richardson, who played there against the Tigers, John Mensah and Paulo da Silva are standing by.Burnley team (from): Jensen; Mears, Eckersley, Duff, Carlisle, Bikey, Jordan, Alexander, Fletcher, Elliott, McCann, Blake, Paterson, Thompson, Guerrero, Eagles, Penny, Kalvanes, McDonald, Gudjonsson, Edgar, Rodriquez, Easton, Nugent.Sunderland (from): Gordon, Carson, Bardsley, McCartney, Ferdinand, Turner, Nosworthy, Da Silva, Mensah, Cana, Cattermole, Richardson, Reid, Malbranque, Henderson, Bent, Jones, Campbell, Murphy, Healy.Hull City v Birmingham City (3pm)Alex McLeish says Birmingham's treatment room is "bursting at the seams" ahead of Saturday's trip to Hull. Forward James McFadden (thigh) and defender Franck Queudrue (hamstring) are the latest players to join an injury list that already includes Cameron Jerome (ankle), Gregory Vignal, Marcus Bent (both hamstring) and Martin Taylor (ankle). Midfielders Lee Carsley (back) and Damien Johnson (strain) are also struggling to be fit. However, there are some positives for McLeish with the news centre-back Liam Ridgewell has made a quicker than expected recovery from his broken leg, and he will compete with the returning Scott Dann (thigh) and Giovanny Espinoza to start alongside Roger Johnson.Full-backs David Murphy (knee) and Stephen Carr (thigh) are also back training with the first team and may feature as McLeish ponders whether to include summer signing Christian Benitez from the start for the first time.Birmingham (from): Hart, Taylor, Doyle, Carr, Parnaby, Murphy, Johnson, Ridgewell, Dann, Espinoza, Larsson, Fahey, Ferguson, Bowyer, Carsley, Johnson, Tainio, O'Connor, Phillips, Benitez, McSheffrey, O'Shea.Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur (Sunday, 4pm)Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes stepped up his comeback from a groin injury by playing a friendly against QPR this week ahead of the Premier League clash at Chelsea. Full-back Gareth Bale also played following an operation in June to repair a medial meniscal tear on his left knee.Luka Modric (fibula), Michael Dawson (Achilles) and Jonathan Woodgate (groin) are still sidelined.Tottenham (from): Gomes, Cudicini, Walker, Hutton, Naughton, Corluka, King, Bassong, Assou-Ekotto, Bale, Palacios, Huddlestone, Jenas, Kranjcar, Lennon, Bentley, Giovani, Rose, Pavlyuchenko, Keane, Defoe, Crouch.Everton v Blackburn Rovers (3pm)Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce finds himself in the rare position of having a full-strength squad at his disposal. Midfielder Steven Nzonzi (foot) and striker Benni McCarthy (ankle) have both recovered from injuries and they are added to last week's squad which beat Wolves.Former Everton defender Lars Jacobsen will hope to keep his place in the side despite competition from Michel Salgado as he returns to Goodison Park for the first time since his summer move.Blackburn (from): Robinson, Jacobsen, Salgado, Chimbonda, Samba, Nelsen, Givet, Dunn, Grella, Pedersen, Emerton, Diouf, Andrews, Roberts, Di Santo, Hoilett, Kalinic, Brown, Nzonzi, McCarthy.Manchester United v Manchester City (Sunday, 3pm)Rio Ferdinand is a major doubt for Manchester United's derby clash with local rivals City at Old Trafford on Sunday. Ferdinand sat out Tuesday night's Champions League win over Besiktas with a groin injury and Sir Alex Ferguson is not convinced the defender will recover in time.If Ferdinand does miss out, Jonny Evans will retain his place, while Dimitar Berbatov and Darren Fletcher are likely to return as United look to end the Blues' 100% record. Paul Scholes is suspended following his dismissal at Tottenham last weekend.Manchester United (from): Foster, Kuszczak, Neville, O'Shea, Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evans, Evra, Fabio, Valencia, Anderson, Carrick, Fletcher, Gibson, Giggs, Nani, Rooney, Berbatov, Owen.Wolverhampton Wanderers v Fulham (Sunday, 2pm)Wolves are set to be boosted by the return of winger Michael Kightly, striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, right-back Kevin Foley and central defender Jody Craddock for Sunday's clash against Fulham at Molineux. England under-21 international Kightly has been sidelined since March by hip and foot problems but he made a successful reserve team comeback in midweek and is in contention to play a role against Fulham.Ebanks-Blake (hamstring) and Foley (knee) were both injured in the opening game of the season against West Ham and Craddock (hamstring) was injured in training during the recent international break. Ecuador international midfielder Segundo Castillo, who is on loan from Red Star Belgrade, is pushing to make his debut.Wolves boss Mick McCarthy could also hand a first start to striker Stefan Maierhofer after the Austrian international scored on his debut as a substitute at Blackburn last weekend following his £1.8m move from Rapid Vienna.Wolves (from): Hennessey, Hahnemann, Ikeme, Foley, Berra, Stearman, Zubar, Craddock, Elokobi, Hill, Kightly, Halford, Surman, Henry, Milijas, Castillo, Jones, Edwards, Jarvis, Ebanks-Blake, Maierhofer, Keogh, Vokes, Doyle.Aston VillaPortsmouthBolton WanderersStoke CityBurnleySunderlandHull CityBirmingham CityChelseaTottenham HotspurArsenalWigan AthleticEvertonBlackburn RoversWolverhampton WanderersFulhamPremier LeagueManchester CityManchester Unitedguardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2009 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds
